The INDEC started first global survey on smoking. The survey was carried out on a universe of about 10.000 people across the country with the idea of meeting consumption data and address strategies to reduce the incidence of the disease.
Long is the history of snuff, healing not only among ourselves but the world. It is one of the addictions that kills more people and in some cases the most difficult to cure. At this point a reader will deny that it's an addiction, check but how else to call a substance that encourages consumption and without which there can be?
The snuff kills lung cancer, pancreas, esophagus, cervical cancer and other lung diseases such as COPD, emphysema more other variants. But not only does so with those who smoke but also with whom are near them. Los rights of "passive smokers" only now begin to respected. Many of those smokers liabilities are children, most of them sons of smoking parents.
According the National Program of Control of the Snuff, the 33.5% of adults smoke, and 30% began before the 11 years old; the snuff causes more than 100 deaths per day (40.000 per year, 6.000 due to passive consumption), and the cost of the treatments of diseases linked to consumption of snuff round the 7.300 million per year, namely, the 15.5% public spending on health. The Government only collects 3.500 million dollars per year for cigarette tax.
But in the seven provinces Argentine tobacco (Catamarca, Chaco, Currents, Jujuy, Missions, Skip, Tucumán) disagree with the control of production and marketing constraints on the risks for employees in the sector.
The reality is that the damage that occurs in health snuff are not new and would eventually have a process of awareness in people, but for those in the business is preferable to create confrontational situations to go looking for alternative crops to snuff. This is not new, almost four decades ago began to talk seriously.
It's amazing that one thinks that restrictive measures are good at home but do not have to affect production, that is exported. Something like that is legal to defend the business if they do those who die abroad.
It is true that the tobacco industry is labor-intensive moves, but thereby justify keeping it in time holds no moral. Not even economic - for the country, means - because their taxes are not enough to offset the costs for care of victims of smoking.
It is hoped that the survey update begins to set arguments - ever - serious smoke-free policies.
