The pace of modern life, sickness thousands of people are repeated daily this question, Why am I always tired? Many people point to the daily chores as the main causes of the problem, have a lot to do and little time, but this is a very partial view of things, and we must address the issue from a medical point of view.

What is meant by fatigue?

It is a feeling of lack of energy, listlessness or exhaustion. Fatigue is the medical term that defines. It is a lack of energy and motivation that is not related to sleepiness (need for sleep) or apathy (feeling of indifference or not caring about anything).

That fatigue is a physical and psychological symptoms that should last several months, to be considered chronic, ie is to be extended in time and not an isolated phenomenon.

Myths and Truths

There are two causes to which the general population attributes the problem: "Stress" and "lack of vitamins". Let's see what truth there is in this.

It's "distress" that defines pathological stress, often one of the causes of chronic fatigue, but is actually a separate entity and well differentiated. The distress is something that goes far beyond the "tired" and should be considered separately.

As to the lack of vitamins (avitaminosis), It is a very "rare" cause of fatigue. Stated differently, we must think of many other causes of fatigue before considering this and if the cause is the question why I have lack of vitamins?; and treat the specific cause. Self-medication with vitamin complexes rarely solves the problem and often prolonged symptoms and delayed diagnosis good.

Usually the cause is usually our lifestyle. Unbalanced and disordered eating, sedentary, poor sleep habits, smoking, alcoholism, etc..

What to do?

Medical consultation is essential, because first of all we must rule out associated causes, anemia such as, depression, insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, hypothyroidism and substance abuse; all are diseases that often debut in their first symptoms as fatigue.

Also control diseases like anorexia and other eating disorders, congestive heart failure, diabetes, Fibromyalgia, parasitic infections, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, among many other.

Certain medications can also cause fatigue, such as antihistamines, antihipertensivos, sleeping pills and diuretics.

After ruling out everything you can think of "chronic fatigue syndrome". a condition of uncertain origin, where people do not get much relief from rest.
